Reduction potential of two metals M1 and M2 are -2.3 V and 0.2 respectively. Predict which one is better for coating the surface of iron.

  • Reduction potential of metal M1 is -2.3 eV
  • Reduction potential of metal M2 is 0.2 eV

  • So, oxidation potential of metal M1 and metal M2 are respectively 2.3 eV and -0.2 eV

  • We know that iron can easily oxidise in atmosphere...so we should choose a metal whose oxidation potential is higher than iron.
  • Here oxidation potential of metal M1 is high..

  • So, metal M1 is better for coating the surface of iron....
