Reema's age = x + 2

Age of Shimu after 7 years = x + 7

Age of Reema after 7 years = x + 2 + 7 = x + 9

x + 7 + x + 9 = 42

2x + 16 = 42

2x = 42 - 16

2x = 26

x = $\frac{26}{2}$

x = 13

∴ Shimu's present age = x = 13 years

∴ Reema's present age = x + 2 = 13 + 2 = 15 years

∴ The age of Shimu and Reema are 13 and 15 years respectively.
