Reema prepared and Indicator paper by dipping a paper strip in a solution of X. she put a few drops of an unknown solution Y which contains H+ ions less than OH ions on this paper She observed that the colour of paper turned yellow. what do you think was the solution X ?

The Option C is correct i.e. Methyl orange.

Explanation:

  • When Reema prepared an indicator, she dipped the paper in methyl orange solution. And then add drops of Y which contain less H+ then OH- (It means solution if basic and less acidic). Then litmus paper turns to yellow.
  • In less acidic solutions, methyl orange turns from red to orange and lastly to yellow with the opposite happening for a solution increasing in acidity. The entire color alteration occurs in acidic conditions. In an acid, it is reddish and in alkali, it is yellow.
