Reena woke up in the morning with the sun shining on her face. She jumped out of her bed and found something wrong. She usually wakes up to the sound of her mother singing in the kitchen. Today there was silence. She walked to her parents’ bedroom and saw her mother lying curled up under a blanket. She tiptoed up to her- Her skin was burning. Mother awoke with a groan and seeing the look on father’s face, smiled and told them not to worry. She wanted to get up and cook for them, but they told her that they would take care of her.
Father and Reena went to the kitchen to make some tea and toast. They put the water and milk to boil in a pan and opened at least 50 jars before they found the tea leaves. Father yelled in pain as he picked up the pan with his hand- he hadn’t realised it would be so hot! By the time Reena found a mug and was pouring the tea into it. They smelt something burning. One look at the toaster and they knew what had happened. They got rid of the smoke and made some fresh toast for Mom again. By the time they took it up to the bedroom she had got up, had taken some medicine for fever and was smiling. She thanked them both, applied some ointment on father’s burnt hand and had her breakfast. Do you know she didn’t even complain that there was no sugar in her tea!
