Reference to Context –
All I think about when I’m with friends is having a good time. I can’t bring myself to talk about anything but ordinary everyday things. We don’t seem to be able to get any closer, and that’s the problem. Maybe it’s my fault that we don’t confide in each other. In any case, that’s just how things are, and unfortunately, they’re not liable to change.

Anees problem was that they don't seem to be able to get any closer.
Explanation:
a. Although Anne was happy with her friends as she remembered them, but she couldn’t confide in them anymore. These friends as she mentions didn’t confide with each other and in any case, this were the things which would never change.
b. The explanation that Anne comes up with is to blame herself. She says that it is because of her that her friends do not confide within each other which has led to further communication gaps within themselves.
c. She wishes to say that these friends are not susceptible to change and therefore cannot be categorized as someone who is trustworthy enough to confide to, therefore they can’t change.
