ANSWER:

The present system of government is democracy wherein the utmost power is vested in the citizens and exercised either directly by them or by their voted representatives under a free (electoral) voting system .

EXPLANATION:

The government of India is considered a parliamentary democracy that implies that the executive branch of the govt. is held answerable to the legislative (who implements the law as well as framing it). Under this system of government, India has (i) A Prime Minister being the Chief Executive of the executive branch and being vested with executive powers and (ii) A President, being the "Head of State", as well.

One of the most credited advantages to a parliamentary system form of government is that it is easier and faster to pass legislations. This is because the executive branch is reliant on the indirect/direct support of the legislative branch and often comprises members of the legislature. India has bicameral legislatures comprising the Lok Sabha (lower houses) and the Rajya Sabha (upper house).
