Evans executed the plan of his escape. He was able to make a fool out of everyone by leaving false clues to misguide the people. The Governor tries his best to catch him and finally he is able to catch him in the Golden Lion Hotel where he was planning another strategy for escaping. The van which caught him was forged as he had another planning waiting ahead which made him escape from there as well and he managed to escape successfully.

Evan planned his escape like a genius. He managed to fool everyone till the end of the story. The prison officer and the van used by the Governor for transferring Evans back to the prison were forged. The Governor was happy that ultimately he was able to track him down using his intelligence and knowledge of German. However, Evans had planned a step ahead. So he did deserved a last laugh of success.
