Out of everything that I have learned throughout my experience in Geography 2, my two favorite ideas would definitely be the concept of constructive identity and the discussions on language. These were not the only ideas which I liked this semester, but they hold more meaning to me, particularly because they have some relation to my major: international relations. I’ve already tried using the concept of identity and how it is constructed individually, whether it is as a person or a whole country, for one of my essays. The discussions on language and how they develop, as well as how slang develops language, is something I found particularly interesting because I love learning new phrases and languages; learning how words have developed makes me unreasonably excited; it’s slightly embarrassing to be honest. We learned the concept of constructing identity through several methods: we had a discussion as well as it being included on one of the exams, but it was explained most clearly in your lecture. The development and discussion of language was mainly featured in a podcast from discussion 11 in which there was an interview of a renowned linguist, John McWhorter
