I liked today’s discussion about theory pretty much. It was very interesting how each single group of our seminar group was able to add something new to the already existing text ‘What is theory?’. I want to add to my definition on theory (see the post before) that if a theory is accepted by the majority of professionals it can be seen as an accepted belief. Additionally my team worked out that it could take time for a theory to be established. The reason for this is that often other professionals have to be convinced. It could be hard for them to change their point of view and to accept a new one, even when a new theory is more logical and replicable as the scientific status quo. I think for scientists it’s very important to be and to stay open minded. Otherwise the progress in subject areas will slow down. There is also often a conflict between science and religion, even these days. But I think that these two fields don’t exclude each other. Actually I would say they are directly connected to each other. Religion for example can help to give answers to questions and theories which we will never be able to solve or to understand in total.
