The Reign of Terror was a period of about 11 months during the French Revolution. During that period, French people who did not support the revolution were executed at the guillotine. On 5th September 1793 the reign of terror began. In June and July 1794, in a period called la Grande Terreur, the violence occurred more and more often. The terror ended ten days later with the execution of several important terrorist leaders. Between 18,500 to 40,000 people died of terrorism.

• The Reign of Terror's reaction to external and internal threats was insufficient. When you criticize the government, you might suspect a counterrevolutionary. The reign of terrorism did not justify these responses because it was not all right to kill someone on suspicion. While the other point about the reign of terror could be made. For example, you could say that in their responses to conflicts they were justified because people had to die to make the revolution a success.
• Also internally and externally there was tremendous tension in the Reign of Terror. It had to be replied by the government. But the killing of innocent people was not justified merely because they were accused of being counter-revolutionary civilians. Instead they forced civilians to be soldiers to make matters worse. You had to choose to be a soldier or dead, so you had to choose death or death. The revolution succeeded in creating a republic government, however.
