Refractive index of a glass sample is 1.52 and refractive index of ruby is 1.71. If

speed of light in vacuum be 3 x 108 m/s, find the speed of light in glass and

ruby. Also, calculate the refractive index of ruby with respect to glass.

Answer:

V = 2*10^8

Explanation:

The refractive index of a medium a with respect to vacuum is n=c/v (where c is the speed if light in vaciuum and v is the speed of light in medium a .

Here, n=1.5 , c=3 * 10^8 .(n is the refractive index of medium glass with respect to vacuum.)

v=c/n

v=(3*10^8)/1.5

v=2*10^8
