Answer:

Reflective index=2.4

Velocity of light in diamond=??

We know ,

Reflective index =speed of light in vaccum/speed of light in medium

2.4 =3×10^8/speed of light in medium i.e diamond

Speed of light in diamond=3×10^8/2.44

Speed of light in diamond=1.25×108m/s

Hope it helps you.

Given:

Refractive index of diamond is 2.4 and refractive index of Glass is 3/2.

To find:

The ratio of speed of light in the Diamond to the speed in the glass?

Calculation:

Velocity in glass will be :

  \rm \: v_{glass} =  \dfrac{c}{  \mu_{glass}}

  \rm \implies \: v_{glass} =  \dfrac{c}{ (\frac{3}{2}) }

Now, velocity in diamond:

  \rm \: v_{diamond} =  \dfrac{c}{  \mu_{diamond}}

  \rm  \implies\: v_{diamond} =  \dfrac{c}{2.4}

Now, required ratio:

  \rm\dfrac{ v_{diamond} }{ v_{glass}}  =  \dfrac{( \frac{3}{2}) }{2.4}

\rm \implies\dfrac{ v_{diamond} }{ v_{glass}}  =   \dfrac{5}{8}

\rm \implies v_{diamond} : v_{glass} = 5 : 8

So, required ratio is 5:8.
