Explanation:

Refractive index = Speed of light in one medium / Speed of light in other medium.

Absolute refractive index means refractive index with respect to air.

So, for glass,1.5 = Speed in air / Speed in glass

1.5 = 300000000/Speed in glass.

Speed in glass = 300000000/1.5

Speed in glass = 200000000

Similarly,

1.6 = Speed in glass / Speed in diamond.

1.6 = 200000000/Speed in diamond

Speed in diamond = 200000000/1.6

Speed in diamond = 125000000

Refractive index of diamond = Speed In air/ Speed in diamond.

Refractive index = 300000000/125000000

Absolute Refractive index of diamond = 2.4

Answer:

Explanation: Refractive index of glass(ng)= 1.5

                      Refractive index of diamond(nd)= ?

Refractive index of diamond with respect to glass ndg=nd/ng

So the refractive index of diamond nd= ndg x ng

                                   or

nd=1.6 x 1.5

     2.4

therefore the refractive index of diamond will be 2.4

ps : Hope this helps :D

(g=glass), (d=diamond)
