It is given that the refractive index of water is 1.0 and speed of light in water is 2.5 x 10^8 m / s.
From the properties of light, we know :
Refractive index = ( speed of light in vaccum ) / ( speed of light in given medium )
Thus,
= > 1.0 = ( speed of light in vaccum ) / ( speed of light in water )
= > 1.0 = ( speed of light in vaccum ) / ( 2.5 x 10^8 m / s )
= > 2.5 x 10^8 m / s= speed of light in vaccum.
Thus,
= > Refractive index of glass = ( speed of light in vaccum ) / ( speed of light in glass )
= > 2.0 = ( 2.5 x 10^8 m / s ) / ( speed of light in glass )
= > speed of light in glass = 1.25 x 10^8 m / s
Therefore the speed of light in glass is 1.25 x 10^8 m / s.
