A measure of the speed of light in a vacuum and its speed in a particular area is known as refractive index

Given

Refractive index of glass with respect to air given is 1.5

Refractive index of water with respect to air is 4/3

Find

We need to find the refractive index of glass with respect to water.

Solution

The refractive index of glass be u1

The refractive index of water to air is u2

Therefore the refractive index of the glass and water to air is u1/u2

= 3/2*3/4

=9/8

=1.125

Hence  the refractive index of glass with respect to water is 1.125
