Given,

Refractive index,

P = 1.31, Q = 133, R = 1.52, S = 1.50

To Find,

Maximum and Minimum speed in four media.

Solution,

We can solve this mathematical problem using mathematical formulas.

μ = refractive index of medium.

C = speed of light.

Speed of light, V = \frac{C}{u}

As we know,  μ = \frac{C}{V}

Since C = constant [speed of light].

So, μ ∝ \frac{1}{V} .  Then V ∝ \frac{1}{u}

⇒ V = \frac{K}{u}    [ K = constant = 1]

Hence, for maximum speed, μ should be minimum.

And, for minimum speed, μ should be maximum.

  1. V_{min} = \frac{1}{u_{max} } , So 'V'  is min in 'R'.
  2. V_{max} = \frac{1}{u_{min} } , So 'V' is maxed in 'P'.

Therefore,

Speed of light will be maximum in P having minimum μ.

Speed of light will be minimum in R having maximum μ.
