Given :

R.I. of carbon disulphide = 1.63

R.I. of ethyl alcohol = 1.36

To Find :

We have to find which medium is optically denser.

Refractive Index :

Refractive index of a medium is defined as the factor by which speed of light reduces as compared to the speed of light in vacuum.

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{\pink{n=\dfrac{c}{v}=\dfrac{speed\:of\:light\:in\:vacuum}{speed\:of\:light\:in\:medium}}}}}

More (less) refractive index implies less (more) speed of light in that medium, which therefore is called denser (rarer) medium.

Here, Refractive index of carbon disulphide is greater than ethyl alcohol therefore carbon disulphide is optically denser than ethyl alcohol.
