Permutit is a complex inorganic salt having the formula Na2Al2Si2O8.xH2O. It is also known as sodium-aluminium silicate or zeolites.

the regeneration of permutit is effectived by soaking with 10 per cent solution of sodium chloride , whereby sodium is regenerated and soluble calcium and magnesium chlorides pass into solution and are washed away.

hope this will help you.

Answer:

The exhausted " Permutit " can be readily " regenerated " or " revivified," and so restored to its full activity. To accomplish this it is needful to replace the sodium which it has lost in the softening process. This is easily obtained from a solution of ordinary salt (sodium chloride).

Explanation:

Regeneration of permutit

The exhausted permutit is regenerated by treating sodium hydroxide solution in Clark's method for removing permanent hardness .

CaZ+2NaCl  ->  Na2Z+CaCl2

Exhausted permutit means the impurity in water i.e Calcium (Ca) that is replaced by Na due to which it becomes Ca2Al2Si2O8.xH2O. It is regenerated by 10% NaCl solution (brine solution). It is most efficient method to get water with zero degree of hardness.
