The sun rises once a year at the poles, and sets once a year there. Sunrise and sunrise and sunset only occur at the poles. When you move away from the poles, the number of sunrises and sunsets increase, depending on how far away from the poles you move. As well, the sun's distance above or below the horizon changes, again, depending on your location away from the poles.
