Answer:

Rural electrification may not be considered as a basic human need like water and food although a study by the World Bank sometime back revealed that rural electrification has various benefits such as improvement health facilities, better health from cleaner air as it leads to reduction in use of polluting fuels for cooking, lighting and heating, improved knowledge through increase in access to better nutrition knowledge through television campaign. It is also believed and not without good reason that electrification also help in improvement in children’s education leading to better living standards.

Electrification of villages in last few years has certainly changed the face of “Bharat” - often called as “rural India”.

Studies have claimed that in some villages it was reported that crime rate declined due to availability of street lights.

Limited access to electricity for poor especially in rural areas, load shedding issue as the power generation capacity unable to meet peak demand and issues of limitation of the supply reliability, in terms of predictability of outages and quality of power. These are now thing of the past.

A new India -where every child progresses in life without any deprivation especially the access to electricity is the need of the hour.

The expansion of electricity services and rural electrification are vital to both the economic and social development of India.
