If the body has sufficient energy, insulin signals the liver to take the glucose and store it as glycogen.
The role of glucagon in the body is to prevent blood glucose levels from dropping too low. To do this, it acts on the liver in several ways: by stimulating the conversion of stored glycogen back to glucose, which can be released into the bloodstream. This cycle is called glycogenolysis.
