Given :

Number of apples for a rupee = Rs. 15

Number of apples for a rupee = Rs. 20

Mixes the two lots and sell them Rs. 35 for 2 rupees.

To find : Gain or loss % = ?

Solution :

Let the number of apples be 'x'

So, cost of x apples would be \dfrac{x}{15}

cost of another x apples would be \dfrac{x}{20}

total cost price would be :

\dfrac{x}{15}+\dfrac{x}{20}=\dfrac{4x+3x}{60}=\dfrac{7x}{60}

Selling price for 2x apples would be :

\dfrac{2x\times 2}{35}=\dfrac{4x}{35}

So, Loss would be :

cost price - selling price

\dfrac{7x}{60}-\dfrac{4x}{35}\\\\=\dfrac{49x-48x}{420}\\\\=\dfrac{x}{420}

So, Loss% would be

\dfrac{\dfrac{x}{420}}{\dfrac{7x}{60}}\times 100\\\\=\dfrac{x\times 60}{420\times 7x}\times 100\\\\=\dfrac{1}{49}\times 100\\\\=2.04\%

hence, his loss % is 2.04%.
