It was the last week of May. My result of Class X Examination was to be declared on that day. I had been waiting for the day with anxiety and curiosity. I got up at six o’clock. I took bath and prayed to God to grant me success. I was somewhat uneasy and restless. My mind was swinging between hope and fear. It was a strange stage of anxiety and expectation.
I was not sure what was lotted for me. My parents had high expectations of me. At one moment I was sure that I would score good. Again, I feared that if I failed or lost division.
I went to school with my mother. Other children also came with their parents. My hands were shaking and heart throbbing. My class teacher handed over my report card to mother. Immediately, a wide smile ran on her face. She told me that I had stood first in the class with 98.9%. She hugged me with joy.
I met the Principal and other teachers. They all congratulated me.
In the evening when I returned home, I saw many more relatives and friends who came to congratulate me. Tea and sweets were served to all who came. Many of my relatives brought sweet boxes for me. All were in jolly and happy mood. My mother prepared nice dishes for dinner. Two of my friends were also invited to dine. Never before I was so happy.
Even today when I recall the incident, it brings immense joy and happiness to me. It was indeed one of the happiest day of my life which I shall remember for many years to come.
