Explanation:

  • Rowntree tried crossing the river on his horse. But the horse feared while crossing the floodwaters and, in the confusion, the author fell down from his load. Somehow, he hung on to the tail of the horse, which managed to cross the river and also reach the opposite side.  
  • Rowntree experiential that the narrow single lane roads were equally treacherous, during the rain. Once driving with his family, the car skid and landed in a paddy field six feet below. They had to push it back with great difficulty to continue their journey.
