There is a symbiotic relationship between bacteria and leguminous plants. In this symbiotic relationship, the bacterium called Rhizobium converts the atmospheric nitrogen into a soluble form which the plants can absorb as they cannot absorb atmospheric nitrogen directly. The nitrogen helps the plants in their growth. The plants, in turn, provide food and shelter to the Rhizobium.
