Answer:

The general relation between focal length, refractive index and radius of curvature is

\frac{1}{f} = (n-1)×\frac{1}{R_{1} }-\frac{1}{R_{2} }

where n = refractive index

           f  = focal length

           R = radius of curvature

For a plano-convex lens R_{2} is flat. Therefore, R_{2} is \frac{1}{infinity} or zero.

The formula then becomes:

 \frac{1}{f} = (n-1)×\frac{1}{R_{1} }
