The relationship between Mini and Kabuliwala is intriguing. Rabindranath Tagore has penned two father figure's : Mini's father and the Kabuliwala. Mini and Kabuliwala meet when she is still a young girl, scared of his bag. She thinks there are children inside the bag, but becomes friendly with him over time. He gives her gifts of fruits and nuts, they share jokes and Kabuliwala treats her affectionately. He sees his own daughter in her, the daughter he has left behind in Kabul. Their friendship is unique: a grown up street vendor chatting with a young, bubbly girl from a well-to-do family make for a strange sight. After being imprisoned on a false charge, the vendor gets to see Mini after many years. It is her wedding day and he is startled to see her in a resplendent wedding dress. he realises that he has missed his own daughter's growing up years. Mini's father empathises with him and pays for his return ticket to his homeland.
