It shows inverse relationship as in hilly or dry areas there is less population and settlement, people preffer plain land rather than hilly or forested area

A physiographic map is used to delineate regions of various nations and to also describe earth's landforms into separate regions. Settlement is an organised human habitation, and settlement maps show about the presence of human on the planet gradually.

EXPLANATION:

A physiographic map is used to delineate regions of various nations and to also describe earth's landforms into separate regions. Physiographic maps display the location of valleys, mountain ranges, and other physical facets of the Earth's surface.

It displays the entire nation's physical shape and the landform areas. The area on the map is usually colour-coded. Each coloured area denotes a different physical region. A settlement, populated place or locality is a community wherein people live. The complexity of a settlement ranges from a few dwellings clustered together to the biggest of cities with surrounding urbanised areas.

Settlements comprise villages, hamlets, cities and towns. There are three types of settlement patterns: semi-compact (medium density), dispersed (low density), and compact (Highest density) and the pattern is based on its population density.  Furthermore, the pattern and distribution of settlements are governed by climatic condition, agriculture, slope, relief, soil, and socioeconomic factors.

However in hilly and mountainous areas climate and topography influence on the pattern and distribution of settlements more than other factors. The relation between physiography of a map and settlement is inverse where in dry or hilly areas there is less population and settlement, and in wet and plain land the population and settlement is more.
