Consider 1 mole of an ideal gas at constant volume to increase the temperature dt,then

⟹dQ=CvdT

From 1st Law of Thermodynamics

dQ=du+PdV

At constant volume dv=0,then

dQ=du

du=CvdT →1

If the temperature is increased by same amount of heat supplied to gas at constant pressure i.e, dQ=CpdT.

⟹du+PdV= CpdT

From 1 we have CvdT + PdV=CpdT→2

we know that PdV=RdT

By substituting value of P in 2

⟹CvdT+RdT=CpdT

Cv+R=Cp

Cp-Cv=R
