Relationship between morality and cognitive development

  • A child is born with its own system of thoughts and interpretation. These are not taught to it but are inborn. With time there is a reorganization of these mental thoughts which are directly related to its societal experience and maturation with age.
  • This contributes to its morality development along with its cognitive development. What may appear good to the child might prove bad to an adult. However as the child begins to grow it begins to observe the rules and regulations of society. This slowly leads to its moral development.
  • Cognitive development initiates with the recognition of the environment by the child. The child constructs its own world with its own set of rules.
  • This cognitive development slowly transforms to the morality development when the child’s world is intruded by the moral lessons taught to it at home, at school and outside. The child now differentiates the good and bad through the morale of the society. Thus cognitive development is directly related to morality development.
