Oxyacids of Chlorine. lists the various oxyacids of chlorine. The relative strengths increase with the number of oxygen atoms since the more there are, the greater is the extent to which the negative charge on the resulting anion can be delocalized The strength of the oxy-acids of chlorine increases in the order HClO < HClO2 < HClO3 < HClO4.

Perchloric acid, HClO4, is supposed to be the strongest of all known acids.

For the oxy-acids of any non-metal, higher the oxidation number stronger will be the acid. The oxidation states of chlorine in HClO, HClO2, HClO3 and HClO4 respectively are +1, +3, +5, and +7.
