Relative density: density of given substance / density of water at 4 degree celcius . Therefore,we can say that relative density is the comparison between the density of the given substance to the density of water at 4 degree celcius( which is 1 gm/cm^2) Also,relative density does not have any units as they are cancelled.

Density of iron is 7.87,

The relative density is 7.87/1 = 7.87.
