Release of heat during respiration can be detected by various methods

Explanation:

  • Thermometer can be used - increase in the reading of mercury in the thermometer will be observed. The temperature of the flask containing germinating seeds undergoing respiration will be higher than that of the flask containing dry seeds.
  • The amount of energy released as heat can be used to measure the respiration rate. This is done using certain respirometers like Warburg respirometer , which detect oxygen consumed or carbon dioxide released during the respiratory process under different conditions.
