The title God Lives in the Panch is an apt title, for it highlights the theme of the story, i.e. God speaks through the decision of a Panch. Jumman and Alagu are friends and also the Panch who have to give their judgment on one another's case. Jumman bears grudges against Alagu because despite being his friend, Alagu didn't give his verdict in his favor. It is only after Jumman gives his judgment, he realizes that there is no bias or prejudice that can effect a Panch's decision because he becomes an embodiment of truth and justice, same as God, when he gives his verdict.
