Hey, not really sure what kind of a question this is, so if there is any kind of mistake please excuse me :)
Answer:
This statement is true
Reason:
Religious sentiments and rumors played a big role in the uprising of the revolt.
- Sepoys were told that bullets coated with the fat of cows & pigs(Pigs are considered unclean in Islam and Cows are holy in Hinduism). In order to load the weapon, soldiers had to bite off the ends of the cartridges of Enfield rifle. This hurt the religious sentiments of the soldiers and is one of the main reasons that let to the revolt.
- There was a lot of suspicion that the British were trying to get the Indians to convert to Christianity. The Indians felt that the British were trying to ruin their culture.
- There were times when sepoys had to go overseas. At the time, it was believed that going overseas makes you lose your caste and religion. Of course, the sepoys did not want this at all to happen.
Hope this helped!! :)
