“Remember , no men are strange, no countries foreign
Beneath all uniforms, a single body breathes

Like ours: the land our brothers walk upon
Is earth like this, in which we all shall lie.
They, too, aware of sun and air and water,
Are fed by peaceful harvests, by war’s long winter starve’d.

b.Why does the narrator use the term ‘single body’?
c.Why does the poet say that ‘ Wartime is like a long winter’?
d. What common resources do we use for our survival?

  • Single body means that all of us are same humans. We have 2 hands, 2 legs, 2 eyes, etc.
  • During the wartime, generally people starve for food and other comodities. This is the same case with winter. In winter people starve too.
  • For our survival, all human race use food, shelter, clothes and water. They also breathe air.
