First we will assume the pages in the book be x

2/3 of x + 40 = 7/10 of x

2x/3 + 40 = 7x / 10

7x /10 - 2x/3 = 40

21x 20x / 30 = 40

x / 30 = 40

x = 1200

1200 × 7/10 = 840 pages are read

and 1200 - 840 = 360

So this means there are 360 pages left to be read.

Answer:

24 Pages

Step-by-step explanation:

Reemu read (1/5) pages of a book.

Let us assume the total number of pages in the book be ‘S’.

Then, number of pages read by Reemu = (1/5) of S

= (1/5) × S

And also it is given the question, If she reads further 40 pages, she would have read (7/10) pages of the book = (7/10) × S

So, ((1/5) × S) + 40 = (7/10) × S

(S + 200)/5 = (7S/10)

By cross multiplication we get,

2S + 400 = 7S

5S = 400

S = 400/5 … [divide both numerator and denominator by 5]

S = 80

Then, pages read by Reema = Total pages – Pages read

S – (7S/10) = (3S/10)

(3/10) × 80 = 24 pages

Therefore, 24 pages are left to be read.

Hope this helps!
