Judith Butler focus was mainly on rebutting the writings and critiques of Paul Michel Foucault (1926 – 1984), a French philosopher and literary critic. Judith Butler criticised Foucault for introducing romanticism in his works and for being a hypocrite. She states that in spite of being gay himself, he hardly mentions it in his work.
