Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship (PSHE) is not just an academic subject. It includes everything we do to promote our pupils’ good health and well-being. It is reflected in the values and ethos of our school.
Our main aims in PSHE are to help our pupils to:
Be confident, happy and independent individualsDevelop their self-knowledge and self-esteemDistinguish right from wrong and to respect rulesAccept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative and understand how they can contribute to community lifeDevelop good relationships and a respect for the differences between peopleDevelop a healthy, safe lifestyleDevelop an awareness of public institutions and services in England.
Curriculum Overview
Through our PSHE Programme we aim to fulfil the five strands of the Every Child Matters outcomes to help children to:
Be SafeBe HealthyEnjoy and AchieveMake a Positive ContributionAchieve Economic Well Being.
It embraces most activities within and beyond the school curriculum and is also studied as a separate subject within the timetable. In Reception PSHE matches the aim of developing a child’s personal, emotional and social development as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. From Year 1 the girls have a weekly timetabled lesson. In the Autumn Term of Year 6, the weekly lesson is entitled Current Affairs but other areas of PSHE are covered in form time and through other subjects.

Resources
In our PSHE lessons, learning is normally through speaking and listening activities: brainstorming, discussion, circle time etc. Although we do not rely on text books, both our libraries are well stocked with books which come under the theme of PSHE.
