Answer

Regarding the above answers,

The hydraulic conductivity in x-direction especially depends on the site specification and I think that the hydraulic conductivity in x-direction should measure in the same model. The soil compression affected by the values of kx. I have estimated this parameter in laboratory with this method:

The hydraulic conductivity of soil in the vertical direction was estimated by using the constant head method. I used dye injection method to estimate the resultant hydraulic conductivity. In any cases, the length of seepage line and its transfer time to the downstream were measured. Given the resultant magnitude of hydraulic conductivity and its value in the vertical direction, can be approximated the soil permeability in the horizontal one. The following relation could be used for calculating the horizontal hydraulic conductivity:

V=L/T=k(Δh/L)

K=(Kx^2+Ky^2)^0.5

In which,

L is the length of seepage line,

T is the transfer time,

K is the total hydraulic conductivity,

Δh is the difference between upstream and downstream head and,

Ky is the vertical hydraulic conductivity (estimated with Constant Head method.
