Lakhs of rupees worth cotton was gutted on Tuesday in a spinning mill in the district of Pedda Kaparthy, Chityal Mandal. On Tuesday 17 March 2020 at around 1.30 pm in the afternoon, the fire occurred in the Pedda Kaparthy Kaveri Spinning Mill, causing panic amongst the populace as a thick smoke emitted from the cotton mill .

When the workers  of the factory saw it, they turned into action and were able to contain the fire with available fire-safety equipment. However, Six of them suffered burn injuries as employees attempted to remove cotton from the unit. One worker had suffered 95% of the burns and remains in a hospital for intensive care.

From Chityal, a fire tender had rushed.  A spark from an electrical wire attached to a blower machine was suspected of causing fire. Police reported that the mill had developed a fire protection system and its workers engaged in fire drills. They concluded, however, that adequate security steps had not been taken and booked the mill manager and supervisor for endangering people's life or personal health.

As the owner of the mill was unavailable, the exact loss of property was not ascertained. No causalities were reported.
