Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in VDJS Campus. The day began with a nature care note by planting saplings of fruit trees in the farmland of school, which is at a distance of about 3km from the school. NCC cadets and IAYP students walked a distance of 3 km early in the morning for this project. After the tree plantation all the students proceeded to the Auditorium, where a special assembly was conducted by the students of Kasturba House.  A group of approximately 40 students of Shaishav Kunj orphanage, Kaimri road, Hisar participated and displayed their hidden talents like dance and music. The students of Kasturba House displayed a skit showing the importance of cleanliness. The children of support staff also presented an enthusiastic dance performance on the song Raghupati Raghav. The VDJS students were mesmerized by the performances of the inmates. After the assembly, an Athletic Meet was organized for the support staff and their family members and the students of the orphanage. Different events were conducted for different age group like frog race, sack race, 4X100m relay, volleyball match, tug of war etc.

The students of class X helped the Sports Department for organizing these events; it was followed by a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of different events. 5 lucky draws were also there. The students of grade VIII served the lunch to the members of the support staff and the orphanage kids in the dining hall.  The students of grade IX, XI AND XII cleaned the academic block.

The day ended with a thought in everybody’s mind that cleanliness is next to godliness and service to mankind is the first step towards reaching it.
