A flat at Kaikhali, near Kolkata Airport, was burgled last night. The owner of the flat and his family were away on a holiday. On being informed of the break-in, the family rushed back this afternoon and lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station.
According to reliable sources, the burglers must have come in past midnight by jumping over the wall at the rear of the complex. As there is no close circuit camera in the complex, no video evidence was available. The flawed security system was at fault too. Only two watchmen are on duty at night and they man the front gate.
Police came in with sniffer dogs to investigate the matter today, especially as burglery and theft have become a regular affair in the area. According to the police, cash and valuables of Rs 3 lakhs was stolen from the flat. As the matter is under investigation, the police were not forthcoming with further details of the incident.
