KURUKSHETRA: A sub-branch of Punjab National Bank, Usmanpur village, Pehowa, was looted at gunpoint in broad daylight here on Friday.
Four miscreants came on bikes, entered the bank with helmets on and flew away with Rs 8.05 lakh cash within 10 minutes.
Miscreants entered bank during lunch hours when a manager, a head cashier and a clerk were having their lunch while the door of their cabin was open. No other employees were present there at the time of the loot.
The three were held hostage by the looters who first took cash amount around Rs 4 lakh from the cash counter and then told the head cashier to open the vault or strong room. They took away more than Rs 3 lakh from there as well.
While leaving they even robbed the manager’s phone that was lying on the counter. Cashier Sunil Kumar informed the main branch and police.
SHO Devinder Kumar said, “Last month, when we went for regular security check at the bank, we intimated the manager about security concerns as the bank does not have any guard or theft alarm. But, they did not take any action.”
SP Abhishek Garg reached the spot and reviewed the CCTV footage of the bank. He said the whole city is under watch and blocked for robbers. The case has been handed over to special CIA team, Garg added.
