Speech : The way we speak or give an information to someone else.

Kinds :

  1. Direct speech
  2. Indirect speech

Direct Speech :

The speech that has been reported exactly as it had been heard is called Direct Speech.

Interesting :

  • It is also know as Direct report.
  • There is no changes in the information given.
  • If some things or small word is changed,it doesn't belong to Direct speech.

Facts about direct speech :

  1. The reported verb is followed by a comma (,).
  2. The reported speech is placed within inverted commas (" ").
  3. The first word of the reported speech begins with capital letter.

See this all with an example :

Thoibi says, " My mother is ill ".

Indirect Speech :

The speech of another person that has not been reported exactly it was . It's substance has been reported in the own words of the reporter. This is called Indirect Speech.

Interesting :

  • It is also known as indirect report.
  • In other words we can say that the information is reported is indirect.

Facts about indirect speech :

  • The reported verb is not followed by a comma.
  • It is followed by a conjunction ( that etc...) .
