2 3/4 is a mixed fraction i.e a rational number which is equal to 11/4.
To represent a rational number on a line we first draw a horizontal line moving infinitely in both directions.
Mark 0 somewhere on the line.then start marking 1,2,3,4,...in right side of number line and -1,-2,-3,.....on left side of number line.
Now look at the denominator of the fraction . In this case i.e in 11/4 denominator is 4 , so mark three points at equal distances from 0-1,1-2,2-3,..-1 to 0,-2 to -1,......
Now 11/4=2 3/4. So mark the point between 2 and 3.

= 2 + 3/4
= 1 + 1 + 3/4
= 4/4 + 4/4 + 3/4

and shade 3 out of 4 parts in last figure

4/4 + 4/4 + 3/4
= 1 + 1 + 3/4
