How to represent -5/3 on the number line? Actually I am a boy of Standard-5.But in enotes.com I have written that I am of Grade 9 because there is no option for Grade-5 in enotes.com. That's why this question will be easier for you all.If it is possible by you to draw a number line and represent it,it will be better. But if it is not possible to draw a number line and represent it , you can explain it in your own way.

-5/3

First you notice if the upper number is larger than the lower number, then the number is greater than 1, so you need to simplify the number by dividing the lower from the upper.

So, -5/3 = -1.66 or

-5/3 = -1 2/3

Now draw the line numbers and find the spot, the number -1,66 will be between -1 and -2

(-4)---(-3)---(-2)--(-5/3)--(-1)---0----1----2----3

I can't draw a great number line for you, so hopefully I can explain it really simply.

First, you must simplify 5/3 either to a mixed number or a decimal. 5/3 is the same thing as 1 and 2/3, or, if you divide the top number by the bottom number, you get 1.66.

Now, simply find the spot on the left side of the number line (because this is a negative number) that is at about 1 and 2/3... it is 2/3 of the way between negative 1 & 2.
