= 1  +  1 +  2/3

= 3/3  +  3/3  +  2/3

Divide a  figure representing  1   in to 3 parts

Take three such figures

shade all 3 parts of each first two figure

and shade 2 out of 3 parts in last figure

you get

3/3  +  3/3  +  2/3

= 1 + 1 + 2/3

= 2 + 2/3

= 8/3
