Let the time taken by first pipe to fill the cisten be x minutes & that of by second pipe be y minutes.

Both together can fill in 3 1/3 minutes.

x + y = 10/3 ----------(1)

If one pipe takes 3 minutes more than the other means x - y = 3..........(2)

Solving (1) & (2) we get, x = 19/6 minutes

And y = 1/6 minutes

Verify:

Difference in time taken = 19/6 - 1/6 = 18/6= 3 minutes

Both pipes together time taken = 19/6+1/6= 20/6 = 3 1/3 minutes.

Hence verified.
