Answer:

The cube root of 1 is 1, and the cube root of 8 is 2, so the cube root of 2 is between 1 and 2. And since 2 is closer to 1 than it is to 8, the cube root of 2 will be closed to 1 than it is to 2. The difference between 1 and 8 is 7, and the difference between 1 and 2 is 1. So I want a point 1/7 th of the way from 1 to 2.

Draw a line starting from 1 on the number line at an angle to the number line but generally in the positive direction. Using a compass, mark off 7 equal segments of any convenient length. Then draw a line from the end of the seventh segment to 2. Now draw a line parallel to that line from the end of the first segment. That line will cross the number line 1/7 th of the way between 1 and 2, and will be my best drawing of 2^⅓ on the number line.
